IVHRRA Mission

Illinois Valley Historical Research and Recovery Association exists as a non-profit organization with a group of people from all ages and walks of life, who share a passion, dedication and a strong respect for our hobby of metal detecting. 
Our primary function is to introduce and participate in a hobby that promotes fun, fellowship, public awareness, volunteer services to both private and public sectors, and to promote archeological education that helps in discovering the history while preserving the past as historical objects are recovered.
Our club strives in keeping an excellent reputation and we are known for respecting and not disturbing the locations we detect.  Each member who joins our club is introduced to and expected to abide by the Metal Detecting Code of Ethics.

Metal Detecting Code of Ethics

I will always check federal, state, county, and local laws before searching.  It is my responsibility to “know the law”.

I will respect all private property and do no searching without the owner’s permission.  Where possible such permission will be in writing.          

I will take care to fill all excavations.

I will appreciate and protect our heritage of natural resources, wildlife, and private property.

I will as an ambassador of the hobby use courtesy, thoughtfulness, and consideration at all times.

I will build fires in designated areas or safe places only.    

I will leave all gates as found.

I will remove and dispose of all trash I encounter, both above and below the ground while leaving each site in the same or better condition. 

I will not litter.

I will not destroy properties, buildings, what is left of ghost towns or deserted structures.

I will not tamper with signs, structural facilities or equipment.
